Children’s Unit

Who are we?

The Children’s Unit of Gimnasio La Colina, offers one of the highest quality educational proposals for early childhood in our city. With extensive experience in education and inspired by the recognized pedagogical approach of Reggio Emilia, our proposal seeks to understand and defend the culture of childhood, fully believing in the innate possibilities that all children have to be, create and build their own learning in relation to themselves, others and the environment around them.

We see childhood as a unique, rich and powerful moment in life, a determining factor in the construction of the future adults and citizens we want for the world. For this reason, our main purpose is to create meaningful, warm and quality learning experiences and environments that provide the necessary possibilities for children to express their full potential through their multiple languages. We promote learning experiences and spaces that value relationships and diversity, play and movement, creative expression and research, collaboration, respect and autonomy as some of their main objectives.

At the Children’s Unit we think of learning as an integral, continuous and permanent process, which takes place both inside and outside the classroom. In this way, teachers, parents, children and the community in general, work permanently and together to enrich the educational experience and to be co-constructors of the learning processes that are experienced on a daily basis. The role of the teacher is fundamental within our pedagogical proposal, so all our teachers have high quality professional profiles and their educational practice is in constant reflection and growth.  Listening, observation and documentation become key elements that show the different ways children learn and commit us to continuous improvement.

WORKSHOPS (Atelier, Music, Body and Movement)

Our pedagogical proposal introduces the concept of Workshops as investigation and exploration experiences that promote the diverse expressive languages (musical, visual, corporal, plastic) and integrate learning, interests and the needs of the children. They are characterized by the use of materials and experiences with highly creative and intellectual potential, which enrich and deepen the development of the projects. They work in an integral way within the planning and curriculum.

There is an emphasis on the development of the child’s native language, reflecting the child’s personal and cultural identity and communication needs.

Additionally, active learning of the English language happens through games, games, songs, poetry and story books, supporting the bilingual process incorporated in the school.
